My Approach to Clinical Supervision
As a Clinical Supervisor, I use a holistic style, drawing from evidence-based therapies like CBT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Existential Therapy, Humanistic Therapies, Reality Therapy and Internal Family Systems amongst others.
As Gilbert & Evans (2001) contend that no single supervision model can account for or encapsulate the intricacies of the supervision process, similarly, I will be harmoniously blending the above-mentioned therapeutic styles with various supervisory models. Using Hogan’s model, I will first identify the level that you are at and shape supervision accordingly to improve your development and, incorporating Hunt’s (1971) recommendations for each level to optimize the environment which would promote your advancement from one stage to the other.
Emulating Ronnestad and Skovholt (2011) Supervisory Principles, my priority will be to develop a supervisory alliance which fosters a safe space for learning, establishing our respective roles /duties and responsibilities and our supervisory goals. Furthermore, I will nurture a reflective culture and, attuning to your developmental level, provide you with the support you need as you create and enhance your identity as a therapist.
Using Bernard’s (1979) model, I will tailor my roles of: teacher, counsellor and consultant based on your given needs in that moment. One of my goals will be to enhance both your macro-level (overall personality development) and microlevels (specific interventions) skills. As a supervisor consultant, I look forward to promoting your competencies though case conceptualisation and in helping you grow as an individual and professional.
Thank you for taking the time to read and I look forward to working with you!
